State v. J.A. – First Degree Rape
Attorney Emily Maggio is a dedicated associate at Marcilliat & Mills, PLLC, where she passionately advocates for clients with a commitment to hard work, integrity, and justice. Emily’s journey in law began with her undergraduate studies at Auburn University, where she earned a degree in Sociology with a concentration in Crime and Deviance. Her academic focus on criminal behavior and societal responses to crime laid a strong foundation for her future in law and sparked her deep interest in criminal justice.
After completing her undergraduate degree, Emily attended Elon University School of Law, where she graduated cum laude and was honored with an invitation to join the Order of Barristers. During her time at Elon, Emily was an active member of both the Law Review Board and the Moot Court Board, sharpening her legal skills and preparing for a successful career in advocacy.
After graduating from law school, Emily spent a year as a clerk for Judge Michael Stading at the North Carolina Court of Appeals, gaining invaluable insight into the appellate process and refining her legal research and writing skills. She then worked in-house for an insurance company, focusing on management liability, before ultimately deciding to join Marcilliat & Mills and focus exclusively on criminal defense. Emily passed the February 2023 bar exam and has since devoted herself to providing dedicated representation to clients facing criminal charges.
During law school, Emily completed a summer internship at the Wake County District Attorney’s Office, where she gained hands-on experience in criminal law. Although she found the work rewarding, Emily realized that she was missing the personal connection and client-focused approach that she truly valued. This realization led her to pursue a career in criminal defense, where she found her true passion in representing and fighting for those in need.
Emily is a proud member of both the 10th Judicial District Bar and the Wake County Bar Association. Her approach to law is grounded in hard work, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to treat every client with the respect and care they deserve. Emily’s clients benefit from her diligent and strategic approach to legal challenges, as she always strives to do her best on their behalf.
Outside of the office, Emily enjoys spending time with her rescue dog and discovering new restaurants to explore, balancing her professional dedication with a passion for life’s simple pleasures.
