Marine Pleads Guilty to North Carolina Sex Charge
By KevinMarcilliat, In Sex Crimes, 0 CommentsA former marine with ties to the North Carolina military base Camp Lejeune pled guilty to one count of a child sex charge. He was recently sentenced for the crime of attempting to entice a child in illegal sexual conduct. He was sentenced to 10 years in a federal prison and he is required to register as a sexual offender.
The man was charged after parents of a 12-year-old girl uncovered his sexual conversations with their daughter. The man engaged in the chatroom conversation in December of 2009 and arranged to meet with the young girl in April 2010. Family of the young woman contacted police who arrested the 21-year-old man.
It is unclear whether the man was active in the military when he was accused of committing this crime. However, for other men and women in the military, accusations of serious North Carolina crimes can be devastating. Whether the alleged incident occurred on a military base or near a military base or while the person was on leave away from the base, it is critical to hire a skilled criminal defense lawyer.
A strong lawyer who is familiar with the implications of a criminal charge will be able to collect important evidence and in many cases, argue for a reduction in the charge. A lesser charge may allow the man or woman to continue his or her military career without damage to his or her reputation.
