Four Charged in Connection With Hotel Meth Lab Explosion

November 08, 2011 | Drug Crimes

Three suspects have been arrested and charged and a fourth remains at-large after they were arrested in connection with a hotel meth lab explosion. The North Carolina residents charged with methamphetamine manufacturing range in age from 22-years-old to 42-years-old, and all four have a prior criminal record including drug charges.

Charges stemming from the meth lab include manufacturing methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The individuals charged have previous criminal convictions including possession of a controlled substance, shoplifting, carrying a concealed weapon and felony drug charges among others.

The meth explosion incident that occurred last spring was well publicized throughout North Carolina. The four were staying at the Old Goldwater Motel in Dudley when the meth lab caused an explosion that severely damaged the guest room. The fire occurred at 4:15 a.m. March 11, but it did not cause other damage to the surrounding guest rooms or motel.

The four suspects were all injured and treated at the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center at UNC Hospitals for burn injuries sustained from the meth blast. Luckily for other residents staying at the motel, no one else was injured in the explosion.

Homemade methamphetamine poses serious health and fire risks due to the process for manufacturing meth. Meth lab manufacturing and meth possession charges are strongly prosecuted under North Carolina law.
