Six Men Charged with Robbery After Forcing Businessman to Empty Safe

Six North Carolina men have been indicted for their role in robbing a Mooresville car dealership owner of $1.5 million in July. The men allegedly broke into the man’s home where he kept a large safe with money from his used car business. The men threatened to kill his children if he did not comply with their demands during the North Carolina robbery.

The men raided the home safe of $1.5 million. According to the indictment, the men stole so much money, they needed a storage unit to keep the cash. Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives raided the storage unit and found $550,000 in cash.

The six men were charged with robbing a business that engages in interstate commerce, based on the news report by FOX. The men have not yet been named in court records.

Theft crimes that involve businesses that involve interstate commerce are even more serious. The crimes are generally charged with federal crimes, rather than state crimes. The severity of the punishment is usually based on the violence of the theft crime and the amount stolen.
