Three Northwood Students Arrested On Drug Charges

After receiving a tip from another student, Chatham County Deputies arrested three students, ages 17, 17 and 20, and charged each with at least one felony drug offense. The police tip that kicked off the investigation and arrests related to possession of LSD blotter paper and possible sale of LSD paper on or off of school grounds.

The three students racked up a range of felony drug charges between them, including:

• Possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana
• Sale and delivery of LSD
• Possession of LSD
• Possession of cocaine
• Possession of drug paraphernalia
• Sale and delivery cocaine

All three students posted the $5,000 bond and must appear for a hearing in Pittsboro on June 4 at the Chatham County Court.

One student was caught with four pieces of LSD blotter paper in his possession as well as a gram of marijuana. The vehicle of another student was searched and police discovered a small baggie that contained trace amounts of cocaine.

Even when it seems like all the evidence points to a conviction for drug crimes, the consequences of possession and intent to sell or distribute charges can be too steep to not consult with an attorney about available defenses. There is a possibility that a negotiated agreement can be reached, reducing felony charges to misdemeanors, or that there is a flaw in the evidence or the way it was collected that could lead to a dismissal of all drug charges.
