It’s a bad idea to download child pornography. It’s an even worse idea to download child porn at work. Possibly worst of all ideas is to download pornography while at work on a military base. A former civilian fireman aboard Camp LeJeune was sentenced to nine years in federal prison followed by 20 years of supervised release for doing just that.
The Navy Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) traced the IP address that 39-year-old Shane Green had been used to access a private network and to access sexually explicit images and videos of children over file-sharing software. He pleaded guilty to accessing the peer-to-peer network and downloading the child porn.
NCIS worked with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to root out what it considers threats to the safety of children throughout the state. The partnership is part of the Project Safe Childhood initiative and has led to a series of arrests and convictions for sex offenses involving children in eastern North Carolina.
Another man, aboard Fort Bragg, was also caught in the internet sex crimes crackdown. Police discovered thousands of images of children in sexually explicit or sexually suggestive displays at the man’s home on Fort Bragg. A man in Wake County was arrested and charged with producing internet pornography involving minors and a Havelock man with a criminal history of sex offenses involving minors was busted for having thousands of child porn images in his home.
