North Carolina teacher facing sex crimes after video emerges

April 09, 2014 | Sex Crimes

A North Carolina teacher is facing serious allegations after reportedly engaging in a relationship with a student. The first-year teacher, age 25, was arrested after the conclusion of a police investigation in March. She is facing sex crimes allegations in connection with the alleged abuse of a student at Lexington Senior High School.

The defendant in this case is accused of perpetrating the abuse in a closet at the school itself. Additional encounters reportedly occurred at the woman’s apartment. Further, the teen has accused the woman of communicating with him through risque text messages; however, he claims to have deleted many of their conversations. The young man also says that he has a video of the woman performing a sex act on him. Detectives say that the subject of that video appears to be the defendant, though that has not been definitively proven.

The defendant has left her job at the school. She is also being held at a North Carolina detention facility on a bond of $50,000. Both her phone and the student’s phone were seized in connection with the sex crimes investigation.

Even in the technology age, many sex crimes cases are distilled down into a “he said, she said” situation. This can even be true of alleged sex crimes that occur between teachers and their students. That is why a criminal defense attorney is a helpful ally for those facing sex crimes allegations; they may help identify defendants’ rights and provide services that protect those clients during courtroom proceedings. A criminal defense attorney may also provide additional information about pleas, arraignment, sentencing and a variety of other topics.
