Sex crime charges against coach result in other reports

May 06, 2016 | Sex Crimes

According to Fayetteville, North Carolina, police, there have been numerous calls about more sexual assault accusations against a former coach. Some of the reports the police department is now receiving deal with sex crime accusations that occurred 20 years earlier. Both male and female victims have reportedly come forward. The police department has now assigned four detectives just to work on this case.

The former volunteer school coach, who is 50 years old, has been charged with two counts of statutory sex offense with a child. He has trained and mentored hundreds of children over the past 20 years in the Fayetteville area.

The charges stem from a report from a 14-year-old boy. His mother took him to the hospital after he returned home from visiting the coach’s house. She said she could tell something was wrong when the child came home and she kept asking him about it until the boy stated what allegedly occurred.

The coach reportedly volunteered at Pine Forest High School until this past January, but had been in various positions, paid and unpaid, within the Cumberland County School system for the last 19 years. He was also a foster parent for many children who lived in his home. He is currently being held on $100,000 bond.

Even though there are reports coming in about other sex crimes, the man still has the right to a fair trial. An attorney can help those who are charged with similar crimes work to develop a strong defense strategy. Should a conviction occur, an attorney can also help with filing an appeal.
