On Nov. 18, 2016, attorney Miranda Mills received a letter from Gov. Pat McCrory confirming her appointment to fill a vacant seat on the North Carolina Council for Women. Ms. Mills, a partner at Marcilliat & Mills PLLC based in Charlotte, will serve her term effective immediately through June 2018.
What is the North Carolina Council for Women?
The Council for Women is North Carolina’s “leading voice” on women’s issues ranging from domestic violence and sexual assault to human trafficking. According to the Council’s website, its mission is to advise the Governor, state lawmakers, and state agencies on these and other issues, and has been doing so since 1963.
In addition to advising the Governor and lawmakers, the Council raises general public awareness, serves as a resource to local women’s councils, and ensures that necessary services are functioning properly.
Who is attorney Miranda Mills?
Ms. Mills became a partner at Marcilliat & Mills PLLC in 2016, after graduation from Wake Forest University School of Law in 2010, and more than six years in private practice as a criminal defense lawyer. In her time in practice, Ms. Mills has tried a number of serious felony cases, from statutory rape to robbery. In 2015, Ms. Mills was featured on WCNC Charlotte for her legal commentary on a local case.
