Authorities arrest 2 in Raleigh on marijuana, heroin charges

February 10, 2017 | Drunk Driving

Raleigh police arrested two individuals on marijuana and heroin charges last month. According to authorities, they arrested a 34-year-old man and 31-year-old woman in northeast Raleigh.

Police arrested the man after stopping him at approximately 6:30 p.m. on a Wednesday evening. They seized nearly three pounds of marijuana and 41 grams of heroin at the time of the arrest.

The arrest warrant alleges that the man was in possession of and trafficking heroin and marijuana with the intention to sell the substances. He was also charged with other crimes, including an illegal firearm possession charge and providing false identification to police. Authorities allege that the man was selling drugs out of his Raleigh store, called “Exclusives Three Clothing.”

At the time of the man’s arrest, police also went to his residence. There they found the 31-year-old female, who has been employed as a prison guard since January 2015. She was also charged with maintaining a location to sell and store drugs. She has since secured her release on bail. The man has his bail set at $1,050,000.

The charges faced by these two Raleigh residents are serious drug crimes, and they could be sentenced to state prison for many years if convicted. However, both of these individuals will have the right to assert legal defenses against their alleged crimes in court. They may also choose to have their criminal defense attorneys attempt to negotiate plea bargains in which they plead guilty to lesser crimes in exchange for getting more serious charges dropped or dismissed.

Sometimes a defense attorney can also negotiate with the court to get clients into drug rehab rather than being sentenced to prison terms.
